Over the years, Mountain Jewish Community has evolved to encompass three different interests:

SOCIAL

MJC meets at least once monthly at members’ homes or at public and private facilities. Our events vary from dessert socials often with entertainment, guest speakers or themes such as a Bagel Brunch, Joke Night, Wine Tasting or Pizza parties. We’ve also held dinner dances at The Lake Arrowhead Country Club, Movie nights and Game nights.  Our annual membership meeting is held in June.

During the summer, we have our annual picnic, attend concerts together supporting the Arrowhead Arts Association, Lake Arrowhead Foundation for Creative & Performing Arts and the Blue Jay Jazz Festival. Friends and guests are always invited to attend any of our activities.

PHILANTHROPIC

We support and raise money for many causes on the mountain through our tax exempt 501- C3 non-profit status. Having various kinds of silent auctions or yard sales have been a yearly event.

MJC contributes to Mountain Communities Hospital, Boys & Girls Club, Doves, the Blue Jay and Crestline Libraries, Meals on Wheels, Mountain Search & Rescue, Rim Education Foundation, San Bernardino Land Trust, Rim of the World High School Essay Contest, Hearts and Lives and many more.

RELIGIOUS

We do observe the holidays, notably Passover and Chanukah. These celebrations are either held at the home of a member or at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa hotel. On certain occasions, we share a prayer and song welcoming in the new week with a havdallah service.

Our presence on the mountains has made some important strides. At MJC’s request, local schools and the Lake Arrowhead Chamber of Commerce were asked to avoid scheduling important activities on Jewish holidays.

MJC has a weekly column in the religious section of the Mountain News newspaper giving information about our group’s upcoming events. Our charitable donations have also been featured in articles in the newspaper.
